Heather MacLaren Johnson
Heather MacLaren Johnson has a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology. She completed psychology internships at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, DuPage County Health Department, and North Chicago Veterans Administration Medical Center while working as a therapist for Pastoral Counseling Services of Greater Chicago. Later, Heather worked in private practice.
Heather raised three children adopted from Russia--all with multiple, invisible, permanent disabilities stemming from prenatal exposure to alcohol. The hidden nature of their limitations and her subsequent struggle with clinical depression/anxiety is a frequent theme of her writing.
Heather's essay about becoming an equestrian at age 44 was published in The Wonder Years by Leslie Leyland Fields (Kregel Publications, 2018) and an essay about her relational conflict with her mother-in-law was published in Your Story Matters by Leslie Leyland Fields (NavPress, 2020). Heather is a guest contributor for Different Dream (about special needs parenting) by Jolene Philo and Chronic Joy Ministries (about living with chronic physical/mental illness).
